Hi Reader,
My birthday was Saturday. I keep meaning to write a proper reflection every year and never quite manage it, so this week's Pin Talks is that reflection instead. This year puts me at six years running Dana's Desk (three of them full-time), and the honest thing year six has taught me is that the businesses that actually make it are the quiet ones. Not the loud launches. Not the ones you see going viral once. The ones where the work you did in 2022 is still bringing inquiries in 2026 because it was built to. Which, not coincidentally, is exactly what we're building together this month (There's also a September-only invitation waiting in the P.S. It's the closest I could get to a thank-you for being here.)
In this week's newsletter…
- A quiet birthday reflection (kept short)
- Why templates are the Q4 infrastructure move you didn't know you needed
- Pro tips for building your core template set in one sitting
- Nina Addeo's Back-to-School workshop is 2 days away
Why Templates Are Your Q4 Secret Weapon
Templates are what turn Week 1's batching workflow from theoretical to actually-doable. Without templates, a three-hour batching session becomes eight hours because you're designing every pin from scratch. With templates, three hours produces ninety days of visibility because you're only changing the words and the photos.
There's a deeper reason templates matter for Q4 specifically. Q4 is when your pin volume needs to be highest (holiday season, engagement peak, gift-guide traffic) AND when your energy is lowest (client work, personal calendars, actual holidays you'd like to enjoy). Templates are the infrastructure decision that keeps your visibility running through the season without demanding more of you than you have to give.
Build three to five core templates that cover your top pin types: blog promo, offer promo, quote overlay, portfolio piece, seasonal graphic. Use consistent fonts and a locked color palette across the set. Save them in a folder you can find at 9pm on a Sunday when you've forgotten where anything lives.
PRO TIP
Build your templates in Canva or Figma, whichever you already open faster. Consistency across pins helps Pinterest cluster your account topically, which improves your visibility across ALL your pins, not just the new ones. Duplicate your template file monthly so you always have a fresh working copy, and never edit the master.

Hit reply and tell me: what's one Pinterest win you've had this year that you're actually proud of? I want to celebrate a few today. (And if you want to tell me what you'd want a gift from me to be next time, I'm all ears.)
Thanks for being here. The Q4 Build only works because you're building it too.
Talk soon,
Dana
P.S. Here's the September-only thing I want to make room for. Through September 30, anyone joining the Styled Pin Collection also gets a mini audit of their Pinterest account from me personally as a birthday-adjacent thank-you for stepping in this month. The SPC is the plug-and-play template library that keeps your Pinterest consistent through busy weeks; the audit is my eyes on your account, telling you what to keep, cut, and reshape heading into Q4. Here's how the templates work.

Reigniting Your Creative Identity When Business Starts to Feel Heavy
It felt fitting to point at this one after a birthday reflection. The years the work feels heaviest are the years you most need to come back to why the business is yours in the first place. Templates give you the infrastructure to work more sustainably. Creative identity is what makes the work feel like it still belongs to you.

A little fun fact:
Did you know?
Visual consistency across your pins actively helps Pinterest's algorithm cluster your content topically, which improves what SEOs call your "topical authority signal." Translation: templates aren't just a design choice. They're an SEO move that quietly raises the ceiling for every pin you publish.
