📌 Pin Talks: The Q4 keyword shift starts now

Hi Reader,

Happy August! We've officially crossed into the quietest-looking, hardest-working month of the Pinterest year. What you plant now is what gets indexed for Q4, and the wedding pros and creatives who treat August as prep season are the ones who don't scramble in November. This month I'm walking you through a four-week Pinterest audit designed to get you Q4-ready before Labor Day: one diagnostic per week, all built to run on your own account.

In this week's newsletter…

  • The Q4 keyword shift and why it starts in August, not October
  • A 3-step keyword audit you can run on your top 10 pins this week
  • Pro tips for finding fresh Q4 keywords without guessing
  • An SEO fun fact about how Pinterest treats seasonal search terms
  • Upcoming: Book More Weddings Summit (Aug 17-21) and September's Back to School workshop

The Q4 Keyword Audit

Pinterest is not Instagram. Your pins don't peak the day you post them; they surface weeks or months later when someone searches for what you made. That's why the keyword work you do in August determines who finds you in November and December, when engagement season starts and Q4 gift searches spike. If your pins are still optimized around summer weddings and July elopements, your Q4 discoverability is already at a disadvantage.

The good news: this is a fixable problem, and it takes an afternoon. Pull up your top 10 performing pins from the last 90 days and look at the language in your titles and descriptions. Then check whether any of those keywords are seasonally locked to summer, and start planning which ones need a Q4-friendly rework or a fresh companion pin with holiday-adjacent language.

PRO TIP

  • Use the Pinterest search bar as a live keyword tool. Type "wedding" or your niche term and watch what auto-fills. Those suggestions are what people are actively searching for right now, and by mid-August you'll start seeing Q4 phrases populate.
  • Layer, don't replace. Your evergreen keywords still work all year, so add Q4 modifiers ("winter wedding," "holiday engagement," "December elopement") to new pins rather than stripping your existing strategy.
  • Batch your keyword research so you're not doing it pin by pin. One 30-minute session gives you enough Q4 phrases to fuel a month of content.

Reply and tell me one keyword you know your Q4 pins should be ranking for. I'll send back a quick note on whether it's a strong pick or if there's a better variation worth testing.

Q4 doesn't reward the loudest creators; it rewards the ones who prepared quietly in August. See you next Tuesday for week two of the audit.

Talk soon,

Dana

Pinterest Marketing for Wedding Professionals: What Actually Drives Inquiries

If you want a clear picture of how keyword strategy translates into real inquiries (not just impressions or saves), this one walks through the actual mechanics. It pairs perfectly with the audit above because it shows you what happens after your keywords do their job and where most creatives lose the lead.

A little fun fact:

Did you know?

Pinterest's algorithm gives fresh pins a discoverability boost in their first 30 to 45 days, which is why August-posted content lands squarely in Pinterest's Q4 recommendation cycle. In other words, a pin you publish this week is far more likely to be surfaced in October and November searches than one you rush out in late September.
