Hi Reader,
Welcome to week three of the August Q4 Audit. We've done your keywords, your pins, and now we're moving up to the layer that quietly makes or breaks discoverability: your board structure. Boards are how Pinterest understands what your account is about, which pins belong to which topics, and which content to surface for which searches. If your boards were designed three years ago and haven't been touched since, you're leaving Q4 traffic on the table.
In this week's newsletter…
- Why board structure matters more than most creators realize
- A step-by-step board audit for Q4 readiness
- Pro tips for board descriptions, seasonal boards, and section usage
- SEO fun fact about how Pinterest reads board titles as ranking signals
- The Book More Weddings Summit is happening now (Aug 17-21), plus a few of my favorite session picks
The Board & Content Structure Audit
Think of your boards as the filing system Pinterest uses to categorize you. When someone searches "winter wedding decor," Pinterest doesn't just look at individual pins; it looks at which accounts have well-organized boards about winter weddings, with keyword-rich descriptions and consistent posting. A messy or outdated board structure tells the algorithm you're not the authority on that topic, even if your individual pins are great.
For your Q4 audit, do three things. First, scroll your board list and identify any Q4-relevant boards you're missing (holiday styling, winter weddings, gift guides, seasonal content). Second, click into your existing top boards and check whether the descriptions include the keywords you actually want to rank for. Third, decide whether any boards should be renamed, merged, or archived because they no longer serve your current niche or your Q4 strategy.
PRO TIP
- Board descriptions are search real estate. Treat them like mini blog post intros, using natural language and 2 to 3 keywords per description rather than a comma-separated keyword dump.
- Use board sections for sub-topics. If you have a "Wedding Inspiration" board, sections like "Winter Weddings," "Micro Weddings," and "Elopements" help Pinterest understand the granularity of your expertise.
- Create Q4-specific boards now, not in October. Boards need time to accumulate pins and signal relevance before they'll show up in seasonal searches.

Reply and tell me the last time you seriously audited your board structure. Was it this year, last year, or somewhere in the "I don't remember" zone? No judgment, I just want to know where most of you are.
Your boards are the frame that holds every pin decision you make. Fix the frame in August, and the rest of Q4 gets easier by default.

Build a Pinterest Content Strategy That Works When You Don't
Board structure is the invisible layer of that strategy, when your boards are set up well, the whole account can quietly compound value even during weeks when you're not actively posting. This post is a great companion to today's audit because it reinforces that Pinterest rewards structural work over constant hustle.

A little fun fact:
Did you know?
Board titles are one of Pinterest's strongest ranking signals, arguably stronger than individual pin titles. This is why a board called "Winter Wedding Ideas" will consistently outperform a board called "Cozy Vibes" for the same seasonal search, even if the pins inside are identical.
